What cancer screening is recommended for Li-Fraumeni syndrome, and how often are the scans done?
Cancer screening (also called surveillance) is the most important part of care in Li-Fraumeni syndrome. The goal is to find cancers early, when they are smaller and easier to treat, and often before they cause symptoms.
–Full physical examination every 3–4 months
–Ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis every 3–4 months
–Whole-body magnetic resonance imaging once a year
–Brain magnetic resonance imaging once a year
–Physical examination every 6 months
–Whole-body and brain magnetic resonance imaging once a year
–Ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis once a year
–Breast checks for women
–Upper endoscopy and colonoscopy every 2–5 years from age 25
–Skin examination once a year from age 18
