      Usually not. About 95% of cases occur due to a random error, not something inherited. A small percentage (around 3-4%) result from a “translocation” form, which can be inherited from a parent who carries a balanced translocation, genetic counseling will be helpful in planning for future pregnancies in risk estimation.
