Advanced maternal age is considered as a risk factor for having a child with Down Syndrome. The likelihood increases with maternal age, particularly after the age of 35 years, though most babies with Down syndrome are still born to mothers under 35 years of age. The risk of having a child with Down syndrome is slightly increased if the mother is over 35 years of age compared to rest of the population.
