Whole exome sequencing looks at the protein-coding parts of all your genes at once, while whole genome sequencing looks at your entire genetic code. These broader tests are usually recommended when a specific gene is not suspected, or when more targeted tests have not found an answer, especially in complex or undiagnosed conditions.
