What is male infertility, and how common is it?
Male infertility refers to a man’s inability to cause pregnancy in a fertile female partner despite regular, unprotected intercourse for twelve months or more. It results from problems affecting sperm production, sperm function, or the delivery of sperm during ejaculation. Male factors contribute to nearly half of all infertility cases worldwide, either as the sole cause or alongside a female factor. In India, this is increasingly recognized as a shared concern between partners rather than being attributed to the woman by default, and clinical evaluation of the male partner is now considered a routine first step in any infertility workup.
